Hello, and welcome! My name is Shenika Bigelow, and I am the proud founder and owner of Eddens Family Daycare. With over 14 years of experience in childcare, I have dedicated my career to creating a safe, loving, and nurturing environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive. Get to know my story and what makes Edden's a special place for families.
My Story
Born and raised in Fresno, California, my passion for childcare began at just 19 years old, when I opened my first daycare in a small one-bedroom apartment. What started as a small dream has blossomed into something much greater than I could have ever imagined.
My journey hasn't always been easy, but through faith in God,
determination, and perseverance, I have continued to grow both personally and professionally. My own childhood experiences taught me the importance of having a safe, stable, and supportive environment. Those experiences inspired me to create a place where every child feels valued, protected, and loved.
Experience & Training
Over the years, I have made it a priority to continue expanding my knowledge and understanding of early childhood development. I have completed four years of coursework in child development and hold certifications in CPR and First Aid.
My professional background also includes experience as a peer connector, supporting children with disabilities, and earning a certificate as a behavioral technician, with experience working with children on the autism spectrum.
These experiences have taught me that every child is unique, with their own personality, strengths, challenges, and learning styles. I believe in meeting children where they are developmentally, encouraging their independence, and providing the patience, understanding, and individualized support they need to succeed.
Child Development
I have completed four years of child development coursework, which has given me a deep understanding of how children learn and grow at each stage.
First Aid & CPR
I am certified in CPR and First Aid, helping me provide a safe and prepared environment for the children in my care.
Supporting Different Needs
I have experience working with children with disabilities and hold a behavioral technician certificate, which includes experience working with children on the autism spectrum.

As both a mother and an experienced childcare provider, I understand that choosing someone to care for your child is one of the most important decisions a parent can make.

I believe childcare is about much more than supervision. It is about building meaningful relationships, encouraging curiosity, nurturing confidence, and helping children develop the social, emotional, and educational skills they need for the future.

My goal is to provide a home away from home where children feel comfortable expressing themselves, exploring their interests, developing friendships, and discovering the joy of learning.

I strive to create an environment built on love, patience, structure, respect, and positive guidance, while maintaining open communication and strong partnerships with families.
Beyond the Daycare
My passion for children and creativity extends beyond the classroom. I am also the author of The Lost Baby Bird, a children's book that reflects my love for storytelling, imagination, and inspiring young minds.
I believe that creativity and imagination play an important role in childhood development, and I enjoy finding meaningful ways to encourage children to explore the world around them.
A Personal Message to Families
When I reflect on my journey, I am incredibly grateful for how far I have come. What began in a small one-bedroom apartment has grown into a childcare program built on years of dedication, experience, and a genuine love for children.
My greatest reward is watching children grow, reach milestones, build confidence, and develop into their own unique individuals.
I don't take the responsibility of caring for someone else's child lightly. Every family who chooses my program is placing their trust in me, and that is something I deeply value.
